GOOD AFTERNOON MY FRIENDS,
SO IS EVERYONE READY FOR THE 26TH ANNUAL MICHAEL’S MEMORIAL GOLF OUTING!!!! I sure hope so cause I know I am. First off, I need to apologize for the delay in getting the “formal” invitation sent out, but let’s just say life has been very challenging as of late. Anyway, here are the details for this year’s outing.
Dates: Thursday, June 20th, Friday, June 21st & Saturday, June 22nd
Location: Oglebay Resort in Wild Wonderful Wheeling, WV
Wilson Lodge Room Block is available through May 22nd. You need to contact Wilson Lodge directly at 304-243-4000 and follow the prompts for Wilson Lodge reservations. PLEASE BE SURE TO USE OUR ID# 38181when making your room reservations. Room rate is the same as last year, $75 per night based upon double occupancy. Make sure you give them a VALID credit card number….. Check in is at 3:00 PM and check out is 11:00 AM.
Once again, we need twelve (12) guys to sign up for the six (6) rooms at The Maple Chalet. In order for us to be able to book or reserve rooms at The Maple Chalet I have assembled a list below of the guys who stayed there last year. I need to know ASAP if you are planning to stay in The Maple Chalet again this year. Once you let me know and confirm via an e-mailed response that you are going to book a room at The Maple Chalet, I will pass your name along to the staff at Oglebay and they will put you on the rooming list for The Chalet. If Oglebay does not have your name on their list you will not be allowed to book your room so PLEASE e-mail me your response, either way, so I can get you on the list of find someone else to take your place. Room rate is the same again this year $130 per night based upon double occupancy and be sure to use our ID# 38181 when making your reservations. A VALID credit card number is needed as well….. Check in is at 3:00 PM and check out is 11:00 AM. We are locked into the Maple Chalet, so please let me know who wants to say in The Maple Chalet as soon as possible. Also, this year the Maple Chalet is sold out on Thursday night. Anyone who is planning to stay in The Maple Chalet and are planning to arrive Thursday will need to make a room reservation at Wilson Lodge for Thursday night and move down to the Maple Chalet Friday.
*Again, please let me know either way and ASAP if you are planning to book a room at The Maple Chalet so I can pass your name along to Oglebay staff and they can set up the rooming list*
JUNE 21st FRIDAY’S PRATICE ROUND:
We have eight (8) tee times reserved on the Palmer course starting at 12:00 PM through 1:10 PM. Contact me when you have your foursome and know which time slot you would like. If you do not have a foursome or tee time preference, I will make sure we pair you up with a group and assign you a tee time. The practice round is $55 per person and will be handled individually. Stop into the clubhouse prior to teeing off to settle up with the golf Pro. As always, there will be beer carts with some delicious chilled beverages and snacks.
For anyone interested, after breakfast and prior to the practice round on Friday, we will be making our annual trek down to the Kroger to pick up some groceries for Friday evenings picnic. Kroger is still trying to figure out what to do about some issues that continue to occur during our annual visit on aisle #12…. Last I heard they added another security camera to help figure out what’s been happening in that aisle. One thing’s for sure, it’s is unprecedented and the store is never the same after we leave. I must say it is an “eye-opening” and unique experience for everyone!!! Hopefully, Mother Nature will cooperate this year so we can enjoy some Friday morning tailgating in the parking lot after we pick up some goodies for the picnic.
After the practice round we will all get together back down at The Maple Chalet around 6:00 PM for a delicious picnic dinner. Once again Tony Guido will bring along his amazing homemade Italian sausage, both hot and mild, Keith Maciel will bring his fall-off-the-bone ribs and pulled pork barbeque, we’ll have some hamburgers and hot dogs cooked on the grill, Mike Weaver will be making some amazingly delicious “Hobo” beans and of course we will have a delicious fruit salad prepared by, well not sure just who yet, but someone will need to step up in chef Nappi’s absence this year…. If anyone is so inclined or interested, feel free to bring along a dish for our Friday picnic. You can never have enough of some good old home cooking. Nothing like some “home cooking” after a long day playing golf and drinking some chilled beverages…… For those of you who have never attended our Friday evening picnic you don’t know what you are missing. I promise you will enjoy some delicious food, beverages and stories, both past and present, shared by everyone. Let’s face it, we sure have a lot of stories to share….
SATURDAY, JUNE 22nd 26TH ANNUAL MICHAEL’S MEMORIAL GOLF OUTING:
Registration Fee for this year’s outing will be $200 per man or $800 per team. $75 Hole Sponsorships are available again this year. We are going to be using a more reliable source for the signs this year so you won’t have to worry about the spelling, etc. Please be sure to send along the wording you want on your sign and your checks to Vinnie as soon as possible so he can help cover the cost of the signs and down payment for the event. Receiving your checks ahead of time helps expedite the registration and set up Saturday morning. It tends to get a little crazy Saturday AM especially when some of us are a bit bleary eyed…. Your registration fee includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, beer carts, raffle tickets, golf shirt, dinner banquet and awards. Our goal with a portion of this year’s registration is to try to finally start a scholarship fund in Michael’s name and memory.

Once again we have a shotgun start beginning at 12:30 PM Saturday, June 22nd on the Crispin Golf Course. PLEASE plan to arrive by 11:00 AM so we can get everyone set up, registered and ready to go by 12:30 PM. We anticipate a minimum of sixty (60) golfers again this year, but I am confident and hopeful we are going to hit closer to seventy two (72) golfers this year. Once you have your foursomes assembled, please send them along to me so I can pass them along to the Golf Pro. If you do not have a foursome just let me know and I will pair you up with others to make up a foursome. As always, the event is a four man scramble format. No mulligans!!! Proxies on three (3) holes, longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt. A Skins game and 50/50 Raffle will also be set up Saturday morning. Once again, J.T. will be providing some very nice golf shirts with our Michael’s Memorial logo. Lunch is included and will be provided at the Caddy shack between the 15thand 16th holes. They did a great job with lunch last year and I am confident they’ll do a great job again this year.
Once the Outing is complete we will meet back up at Wilson Lodge for our dinner banquet in The Fort Henry room. Cocktails will be served at 6:00 PM and dinner will follow around 6:45 PM. The food provided by Ogelbay has been very tasty over the years and I have no doubt the food quality will continue again this year. After dinner we will give out some awards to the winning teams, skins, 50/50 winner, raffle prize TV’s and then another brief history of the 26 years of Michael’s Memorial Golf Outing presented by J.T. 25 years, nothing short of amazing…… Did anyone count the number of “F” bombs J.T. dropped last year? Sure hope to see a bunch of new faces again this year. I know I am not alone saying this weekend is certainly one of the highlights and best times of my year. I enjoy seeing and visiting with everyone who is able to attend and feel bad for those who are unable to attend.
In closing, this year will be the 26th year we have gotten together in honor and memory of Michael Distazio. I sure hope we can continue this outing and tradition for another 26+ years. I also look forward to hearing from all of you over the next few months as we draw closer to June 20th. Less than three (3) months away!!! Once again I promise this year is going to be a special and memorable year. We sure hope to have some nice increases in our attendees this year. Last year we had 68 golfers and 85 dinner banquet attendees. Not bad for a bunch of misfits and wayward boys…. Let’s shoot for 78 golfers and 100 banquet attendees this year…
